The updated Provider Access Legislation (PAL) has now been enacted. It specifies schools must provide at least six encounters with approved providers of apprenticeships and technical education for all their students:
- Two encounters for students during the ‘first key phase’ (year 8 or 9) that are mandatory for all students to attend.
- Two encounters for students during the ‘second key phase’ (year 10 or 11) that are mandatory for all students to attend.
- Two encounters for students during the ‘third key phase’ (year 12 or 13) that are mandatory for the school to put on but optional for students to attend.
All students in years 8 to 13 have access to a comprehensive careers program designed to inform them about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities. This initiative offers:
- Information on a wide range of educational and training options available at key transition points.
- Engagement with local providers through options events, assemblies, group discussions, and taster sessions, allowing students to learn about various technical education and apprenticeship opportunities.
- Guidance on how to apply for both academic and technical courses.
Encounters will take place during regular school hours, allowing providers sufficient time to:
- Share information about their organisation and the technical education qualifications and apprenticeships they offer.
- Explain potential career pathways associated with these options.
- Provide insights into the learning and training experience with their organization, including opportunities to meet staff and current students.
- Answer any questions students may have.
