Department Overview
Food and Nutrition equips learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating. It encourages learners to cook and enables them to make informed decisions about food and nutrition and allows them to acquire knowledge in order to be able to feed themselves and others affordably and nutritiously, now and later in life.
Food and Nutrition is taught at Key Stage 3 over a two year course. Students can then elect to study the subject at Key Stage 4 by choosing it as a GCSE option in year 9.
At Key Stage 4 the subject is taught over a three year course. It consists of two pieces of coursework, each worth 50% of the students’ overall grade and one exam unit, worth an additional 50% of the students’ overall grade.
