March Assessments

February 2023

Dear Parent/Carer

Your child is currently studying BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise (Business Studies) as one of their Key Stage 4 subjects in Year 10. This subject consists of two coursework units and one examination unit.

Your child has been taught the content for Component 1 and completed this coursework unit in November. We will shortly be starting the second coursework unit; a formal assessment worth 30% of their overall grade. This means that 60% of their overall grade will be completed by May of this year.

This coursework component comprises of the following:

A five hour written Business plan (Broken down into two sessions of 2.5hrs each)

A 1-2-1 recorded presentation about their business idea

A two hour written formal review/evaluation of the Business plan and presentation

Please note prior to each assessment the students will have a chance to fully prepare and act on feedback given. Component 2: Creating and pitching a micro business idea, has been scheduled for the following dates:

Business Y10 10W & 10Y 10X & 10Z
Written report explaining two business ideas & the completion of a Business plan (First 2.5 Hours) Monday 6th March Tuesday 7th March
Written report explaining two business ideas &  the completion of a Business plan (second 2.5 Hours) Thursday 9th March Friday 10th March
1-2-1 Presentations Tuesday 21st March Tuesday 21st March
Review and evaluation of the Business plan/presentation Thursday 30th March Thursday 30th March

Following the assessments teaching staff will submit the work to the exam board for moderation. If your child is entitled to any special exam arrangements such as extra time this will be in place for these assessments.

Please note, if your child studies ICT also they will have assessments in both subjects, however we have worked hard to ensure the dates of assessments do not clash.

If you have any pre-scheduled appointments, I would kindly request that these are re-arranged as this is a formal assessment and therefore attendance is compulsory.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact gemma.buckingham@mybiddenham.com

Yours sincerely,

Mrs G Buckingham

Head of Business Studies
