Snapchat Issue Letter 2

12th October 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that your child has been part of a group chat involved in a bullying incident online using the social media platform Snap Chat. The age restrictions for this app is 13+ which means that your child should not be accessing this content online. As a quick reference please click on this link to a leafletĀ about snapchat that is provided by national safety online that highlights the risk factors of your child having an account.

The snapchat app has been used to make inconsiderate comments to a student in their peer group. Due to the nature of the comments made your child has been asked to meet with myself and consequences will be in place to ensure there is not a repeat of this behaviour.

The support that will be in place to ensure there is not repeat behaviour online includes:

We would encourage you to have a discussion with your child about behaviour online outside of school hours and how their actions online contribute towards their digital footprint and the wellbeing of those who have been targeted in the group chats.

We believe as a school it is important to educate students when incidences like this occur. To support you with this there are some useful resources that can be found on the parent area of our school website. One website that would be particularly useful as your child starts to show more independence online is the national online safety website.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Miss A Lewis
